Sölvesborg is an incredibly picturesque corner...
...in the south of Sweden. When I first saw it on the map, my eyes were immediately drawn to a little lighthouse by by the shore. I had never been to a place like that before, so the decision to go there after work just felt right. The tea was ready, punschrulle carefully packed - a little fika with a sunset view sounded like the perfect way to end the day. And just the thought of it filled me with a childlike sense of excitement.
After 40 minutes on the road - during which we passed a few curious horses we finally arrived. But, as it turned out, we weren't alone. Ahead of us were three guys with bikes. Two of them were energetically hopping across the shoreline rocks toward the lighthouse, while the third, the quickest of the them, was already setting up a tent. We struck up a conversation. Turned out, they were riding all the way from Germany, covering nearly a hundred kilometers a day. They'd read about this lighthouse on a cycling forum and decided to spend the night here.
My boyfriend, who had grown up in this area, was genuinely surprised:
- There's really not much to do around here, - he said
To which one of the guys cheerfully replied:
- Actually, you can climb the lighthouse!
He walked up to the door, did some kind of magic with the lock - and it opened. Behind it was a narrow ladder leading upward. And just a couple of minutes later, my boyfriend and I were standing at the top of the 13 meter lighthouse.
- Can you believe it? I spent my whole childhood here and never knew you could go up there, - he said, looking out at the amazing view
- That's the best part, isn't it? Even after all these years, this place still finds ways to surprise you, - I smiled
I hadn't had a more delicious cup of tea on the whole trip
